Jerome “Jerry” Walcher, 80, of Temperance, MI, died Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at Ebeid Hospice Residence. Born May 19, 1938, in Bismarck, ND, he was the son of Charles and Anne (Haider) Walcher. Jerry earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from North Dakota State University, where he also played quarterback. He married Lynda L. Carufel on December 30, 1959. Jerry was employed for over 30 years at Teledyne CAE, in Toledo, retiring in 2008. As a young engineer, he helped design the engine for the SR-71 Blackbird. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Temperance, MI. Jerry loved working on his 1966 Mustang, boating and Jazz.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lynda; children, Phil Walcher, Jerry (Patti) Walcher, II, Kara (Mike) Shavo, Krissy (Josh) Mayes and Doug (Angie) Walcher; brothers, Bob (JoAnn) Walcher and Donald Walcher; sisters, Mary Jane (Don) Reichel and Dorothy VonHof; grandchildren, Justin, Jenna, Kate, Sophie, Ben, Francie, Ada, Maggie, Lynda, Reed, Myles, Kara, Samuel and Natalie. Jerry was preceded in death by brothers, Dick and Jim Walcher and sister, Virginia Reichel.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm, Monday, November 19, 2018, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 8330 Lewis Avenue, Temperance, MI, where a gathering will start at 10:00 am.
